Why Backup?

It is necessary to back up a user's mailbox from the SkyConnect server. Ideally, you should configure an archive of each user's mailbox using an email archive solution such as Vaultastic. This will protect your organization from data loss from intentional or unintentional deletion of mail.

However, if the mail archive is not configured, you may need to take a backup of a user's mailbox on demand. Some of the most common reasons are as follows:

  • The movement to a new laptop/desktop
  • Backup the contents of a mailbox before deleting the account from the server.

Solutions

1. Move the contents of the mailbox using LegacyFlo to a Vaultastic account.

2. Move the contents of the mailbox using LegacyFlo to a S3 bucket in your AWS account

3. Download the contents of the mailbox using LegacyFlo into a local store.

Steps for solution 1:

1. If you do not have a Vaultastic domain, create one.

2. Create a HOLD account for the user in your domain.

3. Get an account on LegacyFlo (if you do not already have one)

4. Login to LegacyFlo and submit a request to migrate data from the SkyConnect account to a Vaultastic account. The request type will be IMAP-MITHI-IMAP.

Steps for solution 2:

1. Get an account on LegacyFlo (if you do not already have one)

2. Configure a S3 bucket in your AWS account

3. Login to LegacyFlo and submit a request to export data from the SkyConnect or Vaultastic to S3. The job type will be MITHI-S3-ZIP. (In case the mailbox being deleted is greater than 75GB in size, multiple LegacyFlo requests will have to be submitted selecting different time ranges or folders.)

4. Once the job is complete, using the S3 browser, download the zip file from the S3 bucket. The contents of the zip are EML files - one per mail.

Steps for solution 3:

1. Get an account on LegacyFlo (if you do not already have one)

2. Get the credentials for the temporary S3 bucket from Mithi. (The data from a temporary bucket is automatically cleaned within 15 days. ). Alternatively, use an S3 bucket in your AWS account.

Note:

LegacyFlo is a paid service where you only pay for the amount of data migrated.
